          About Me

My name is Bill Hubick, and I am an addicted photographer, naturalist, and conservationist. I live in central Maryland, an area that hosts a surprisingly diverse range of natural areas. From the hills of western Maryland to the Chesapeake Bay and the tidal saltmarshes of the Eastern Shore, there are endless opportunities for photography and nature study. I hope some of the beauty I have seen here and in my travels shines through in the images you see on this site.

EQUIPMENT: I currently shoot with the Canon 20D Digital SLR and a small collection of Canon lenses. Most of my close-ups are taken with a Canon 600mm f/4, which I mount on the Gitzo 1325 carbon fiber tripod with a Wimberley tripod head. I often shoot with a 1.4x teleconverter (rarely with a 2.0x) and the Canon 550EX Speedlite flash. I also spend a lot of time shooting with the Canon 100-400mm lens, especially when lugging "Big Lens" is impractical (e.g., rough hiking). I shoot macro subjects with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM macro lens and landscapes with either a 18-55mm or fixed 50mm lens. Finally, I do process all images using either Ulead PhotoImpact or Adobe Photoshop.

IMAGE USE: Images are available for purchase as prints or single-use digital images. See Buy/Use. My photos are regularly featured in American Bird Conservancy (ABC) publications and Audubon magazine, and have appeared in a variety of other publications, including local newspapers, conservation and regional birding magazines, and educational displays.
