Howard Co., Maryland (12/14/2005). Shooting at dusk beside a red light was definitely a new challenge!

Below: An adult female Rufous Hummingbird visits a hospitable yard in St. Mary's Co., Maryland (12/30/2007). There remains some contention whether this bird might be a hybrid such as Rufous x Calliope. A real beauty. My thanks to the very hospitable homeowners!

Comments:  This western hummingbird species has been observed with increasing regularity on the East Coast in late fall and early winter. Many thanks to all of the hospitable homeowners for welcoming me and for providing important refueling stations to these birds.
