Boreal Owl (Aegolius funereus)

Comments:  This uncommon resident of the far north is highly nocturnal, spending its nights hunting for small mammals and the occasional bird. In some winters, individuals may travel far south of their range in search of better hunting. It usually roosts in thick conifers by day, but is quite oblivious to humans. This beautiful owl was photographed in Ontario, Canada in February 2005.
